Lior's story

At SAP, we build breakthroughs, together.

I have not faced one time at SAP that someone doesn’t respect my opinion. Note that I didn’t say agree with, but respect. And it doesn’t matter what level you are at. Everyone respects each other, from senior leaders, to my peers, and teams. I haven’t really seen that respect from others before.

Lior Weizman

Lior Weizman joined SAP two years ago to lead SAP.iO Foundry in Israel. No stranger to corporate innovation, over the past decade Lior has been focused on connecting startups with some of the world’s largest corporations. He has led large corporate accelerators and his passion lies in defining an open innovation strategy, and forming long term and innovative technology based partnerships.

“I didn’t think I would be working for SAP, because I had the image that it was a "heavy organization". However, during the hiring process, I realized quickly how SAP is a much cooler company than I first thought. And having been here for two years now, I know this is 100% true. SAP is a vibrant company that is agile, innovative, and young,” Lior says.

One thing that stands out to Lior is the respect that everyone at SAP has for each other.

“I have not faced one time at SAP that someone doesn’t respect my opinion. Note that I didn’t say agree with, but respect. And it doesn’t matter what level you are at. Everyone respects each other, from senior leaders, to my peers, and teams. I haven’t really seen that respect from others before. This is crucial for innovation and I truly value it,” he says.

One example of this has been working with Alexa Gorman, SVP, and Global Head SAP.iO Foundries & Intrapreneurship. Alexa is a very experienced leader and long-time SAP employee based in Germany. To Lior, she has been invaluable in giving guidance, connecting him to people within the company and supporting him in pushing the boundaries of innovation.

“It is about the blending of two cultures, two sets of experiences, and perspectives that has helped to drive open innovation within the startup ecosystem,” Lior says.

“When we started exploring collaboration, we understood that our combined expertise in technology and business, as well as our network across major industries, is a springboard for startups. I enjoy working with Alexa and many others at SAP. We can implement innovative solutions that address concrete business challenges and deliver immediate value for our clients,” he says.

Lior appreciates his team and how SAP is open to client needs. He values that SAP is open to collaborate with new ideas and provides different perspectives.

“When you are open in a technological sense, we are able to look for the most innovative solutions for our customers and are able to tap into the best of the best,” he shares. “We focus on enabling startups to build integrations using SAP applications and platforms to accelerate value for our customers.”

Lior shares how SAP.iO has tried many new things when it comes to innovation. And under his leadership the team in Israel will have even more courage to try new things.

“To me, it is about openness, innovation, and diversity. This is what makes SAP a special place to work,” Lior says.
