The Challenge

Earning trust and creating demand for its brands in a digital world

Whirlpool was using legacy HR technology that was heavily customized and fragmented and provided an inconsistent employee experience, putting even basic data and information out of reach for employees and managers.

To ensure trust and create demand for its brand in a digital world, Whirlpool needed an innovative HR function to attract and retain top talent by delivering digital experiences that facilitate high performance and career opportunities. It also needed data-driven workforce insights on a global scale to anticipate future skills requirements and enable robust performance management and succession planning.

HR digitalization was a key objective in our transformation to address our work culture challenges. Our investment in the tools necessary to develop and engage our people was an important aspect enabling the execution of our business strategy.

The Solution

Creating standardized, consistent HR processes on a global scale with SAP SuccessFactors solutions

Intent on changing the way it engages its workforce, Whirlpool Corporation worked with Deloitte LLP to implement a suite of human experience management solutions from SAP across its global operations.

Taking a greenfield approach, Whirlpool spent several months creating a current state baseline and producing a vision with guiding principles linked to its strategic architecture. The team redesigned key organizational data and job architectures and identified key enabling technologies, building a business case and gaining sponsorship from the executive management team to transform its HR business over a three-year period.

Using a global design derived from standard functionality, Whirlpool minimized its localization scope in 52 countries to standard legal and regulatory requirements.

The Result

Uniting business vision with a high-performing workforce

Whirlpool is now delivering excellence in HR to 77,000 employees, providing a consistent, engaging experience using 130 standard global processes supported by shared services. With global, data-driven talent insights for headcount, diversity, attrition, costs, and high performers, Whirlpool is well placed to anticipate future workforce skills and continue to deliver on its promise to make customers’ lives easier.
